In India, 39% of 104 million elderly are either abandoned or live alone. As per an estimate close to 18 million elderly are homeless. One of the main reasons for the abandonment of the elderly in India is changing social dynamics and family structures. The shift from joint families to smaller families often leaves elderly parents or relatives isolated and unsupported. Economic challenges, poverty, unemployment and limited access to basic healthcare make it challenging for the younger family members to provide proper care for the elderly leading to abandonment Vedriti India is planning to provide weekly supply of ration to these abandoned/under privileged elders living in the slums of Sakhi Vihar, Andheri East. This weekly supply kit would include rice/atta,pulses, some vegetables and fruits

Loneliness and isolation are the biggest issues faced by elders living in old age homes. Vedriti India’s Community Day aims to address this by getting our donors, volunteers to spend some quality time with the seniors, engage in heartfelt conversations, and create lasting memories. This is accompanied with a music show, mimicry or a magic show to entertain the senior citizens. In March 2024, we organized our first-ever Community Day at an old age home in Mira Bhayandar Road. This day filled with music, good food and great conversations brought smiles to elders' faces, reminding them that they're surrounded by care and love. It's our simple way of spreading happiness and letting them know they're not alone.
